With the Philippines’ most vibrant IT-BPO industry that surpassed over India, high Speed internet connection is 1 of the requirement for the continuous growing market of the business outsourcing industry. IT-BPO industries are often used VOIP or Voice over IP to communicate their clients abroad. As officially reported last year by the Everest Group that the Philippines had overtaken India in the number of people employed by the IT-BPO and shared services industry, Investors of IT-BPO leap higher to continue serving their clients as many clients abroad become dependent on their world class services.

Also, the results of an IBM study – The Global Location Trends Report – announced about the same time showed that the Philippines had also over taken India in terms of revenue for the BPO business. The, comScore also wrote – which measures Internet activity – announced that the Philippines had the highest social network penetration among Internet users of any country in the world. It is excluding the social networking penetrations of the 10 Million Filipinos who are scattered and working outside the Philippines as OFW.

On May 9, 24/7 Wall Street – which purports to offer analysis and commentary for investors – proclaimed the Philippines the “Social Networking Capital of the World.”

High speed internet connection record is worthless if it is not used wisely and efficiently but for the record of the Makati City, Philippines, high speed internet connection is necessary for the IT-BPO industry and not for Social Networking prowess.

It is no wonder why the Philippines doesn’t have level internet connection speed except Makati’ City’s BPO business capital. For the fast expansion of IT-BPO around the Philippines, It is required that the other city must have to comply the IT-BPO requirement of high speed internet connection. Furthermore for the recently opened server for cloud computing in the Philippines; consistent and high speed internet connection is also required.

The Philippine fast-food giant Jollibee will expand worldwide

Jollibee Foods Corporation forays into the Vietnam, HK, Macau and South China markets — with eyes on acquiring Hard Rock Café — even as the fast-food giant buys back its Chowking restaurant chain in the United States through Jollibee Foods subsidiaries abroad.

Jollibee Foods on Friday announced in separate reports to the Philippine Stock Exchange its plans to consolidate acquisitions abroad.

The Philippine fast-food giant said it has entered into an agreement that will pave the way for the company to own restaurants in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau and Southern China.

Jollibee Foods said its wholly-owned subsidiary Jollibee Worldwide Pte. Ltd. (JWPL) signed a framework agreement with Viet Thai International Joint Stock Corp. to establish a platform to own and operate a portfolio of restaurants in those territories.

Under the agreement, JWPL will invest $25 million to own 49 percent of the joint venture company in Vietnam and 60 percent of its company in Hong Kong, which will include the current restaurant businesses of Viet Thai and its affiliates.

Besides the investment, JWPL will also pay Viet Thai $35 million. The payment scheme carries a yearly 5-percent interest.

“Part of the investment will be used to fund the joint venture’s acquisition of an additional restaurant chain. Upon completion of such acquisition, the joint venture is expected to have a total of 139 outlets across its brands, including 118 in Vietnam and 21 others in five countries," Jollibee Foods said.

Based in Vietnam, Viet Thai owns and operates the Highlands Coffee, Hard Rock Café and other smaller food outlets in Vietnam; it also owns Hard Rock Café in Hong Kong.

Jollibee Foods said Viet Thai turned in a “positive" profit for 2010 while sales reached about $30.2 billion.

Jollibee buying back Chowking in US

On the other side of the globe, Jollibee Foods will take back all 20 Chowking stores in the US from a master licensee.

Jollibee Foods said its subsidiary, Tokyo Teriyaki Corp., has signed an agreement to reacquire all of 20 Chowking stores in the US from Fortune Food Service Co. Inc. and its related companies.

The Fortune Group currently owns and operates all Chowking stores in the US, 18 of which are in California and one store each in Nevada and Washington. Tokyo Teriyaki will formally take over the stores by the end of the business day on May 27, 2011.

Jollibee Foods will be paying $16 million for the acquisition. An initial payment of $12 million will be made on the take-over date and the rest shall be paid annually over the next five years.

“With this acquisition, Jollibee Foods will be poised to take a more active role in the further growth of the Chowking business in the USA," the company said.

Jollibee Foods added that the earnings of Chowking stores in the US are “positive" as sales last year reached $19.2 million.

Jollibee Foods operates 1,931 stores in the Philippines and 407 abroad. Besides Jollibee and Chowking, its brands include Mang Inasal, Red Ribbon, Caffe Ti-amo, and Greenwich, among others.

Davao City welcomes biggest manufacturing technology exposition

DAVAO Philippines: For the 5th year, Mindanao opens the “Manufacturing Technology Davao 2011”, the biggest and most comprehensive machinery and technology show in the region on May 26-28 at the Convention Hall of the Bangko Central ng Pilipinas, Davao City. Organized by the Global-Link MP Events International Inc., the show is set to attract thousands of trade buyers from various allied industries.

MTD is more than just an expo. For companies looking for a one-stop to source all their manufacturing and technology needs – this is the place to be, Patrick-Lawrence Tan, CEO Global-Link MP said.

“Fresh from the success of last year’s run, it was an easy decision to reprise Manufacturing Technology Davao,” remarked Tan. The event is one of the most trusted and longest running trade shows in Manila. Because of the warm reception we received last year, we are proud to organize a bigger and better exhibition and business conference once again,” he added.

Last year over 4,400 visitors and buyers flocked the displays of 67 exhibiting companies. The show proved to be an ideal venue to conduct business transactions in a national and international capacity as exhibitors collectively reported on-site sales worth over P22.9 million. The 2011 edition is anticipated to surpass its previous achievements.

“Davao is a new market for many exhibitors, and I’m confident that they will find plenty of business opportunities at one of the fastest growing economies in the country,” Tan said.

Global-Link MP has tied up with the Printing Industry Association of Davao Inc. (PIADI), Philippine Center for Print Excellence (PCPE) and the Philippine Printing Technical Foundation Inc. (PPTF), together with top printing companies headlining programs such as Fault and Remedy for Press by Heidelberg Philippines, Rubber Rollers Technology by Hicor Manufacturing as well as a whole day program covering rollers, inks, pre-press and instrumentation by Ideal Marketing and Manufacturing and its international suppliers.

“We are on constant quest to improve ourselves,” stated PIADI president Eladio Aviola. “By organizing these technical seminars, the knowledge gained benefits the entire country’s printing industry, not just the printers in Davao.”

Manufacturing Technology Davao 2011 will include sub-shows: T.O.P.S. Davao – Total Office Products Show, Woodmach Davao – Woodworking & Furniture Making Technology, and the Davao Food Expo – Food & Food Processing and Packaging Technology.
